Iris Vance - AftercareMrs. Iris Vance is a native of Rockdale County and the daughter of the late Deacon Willie & Ollie Mae Henderson of Conyers, Georgia. She is married to John Edward Vance, Sr. and is the mother of Dr. & Mrs. John Edward and Aditi Vance Jr., MD.

Mrs. Vance has been a resident of Dekalb County for 41 years. In 1962, she received her B.A. in Education from Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University) and was one of the first of two African-American teachers to integrate Rockdale County School System in 1967.

Mrs. Vance is a retired Rockdale County teacher of 32 years (awarded Pine Street Elementary’s Teacher of the Year in 1993. She is now helping to shape minds and mold children into leaders, serving as a teacher with The Academy of Scholars, and has done so since 2013.

In addition, Mrs. Vance has served on the board of directors of the Willie Henderson, Sr. Memorial Academic Scholarship Fund for 24 years. She is a member of the Rockdale County NAACP and received the Jean Williams Community Service Award from the organization in 2011. She is also a member of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church.
