Total Eclipse of the Sun – August 21, 2017

What We Have Planned For Our Scholars

On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to a total eclipse of the sun. This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun and the sun’s tenuous atmosphere – the corona – can be seen, will stretch from Lincoln Beach, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina.

Solar Eclipse

Our area is blessed to be within the 90%-95% path so we expect our scholars to have a front row seat, as it were, to this special celestial event which will be seen over Georgia between 2:00 p.m. and 2:40 p.m. For the safety and security of our scholars, we will be keeping them inside the building to observe first-hand, as well as via a Live NASA Video Stream. We are excited to be sharing with your scholar the science and wonder of this special event.

You are welcome to join the online viewing of the eclipse at the NASA website. At this same website you will find many resources you may wish to review with your scholar before or after the eclipse.

NASA Television will air a four-hour show, Eclipse Across America, with unprecedented live video of the celestial event, along with coverage of activities in parks, libraries, stadiums, festivals and museums across the nation, and on social media. Live coverage will stream from 12 Locations, Airplanes, Ground Telescopes, plus 57 High Altitude Balloons.
